The Orchestra Pit
An orchestra pit is the area located in a lowered area in front of the stage, where the conductor and musicians perform. Orchestral pits are utilized in forms of theatre that require music or has the need for music in stage productions. It allows the conductor and musicians to be in sync and on cue with the performers.
Opera NOVA productions are usually done at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Arlington which has an ochestra pit. The conductor (Jose Sacin) is positioned at the front of the orchestral pit facing the stage.
