Partnering with Opera NOVA

Arlington County is perhaps the smallest political entity in the United States that has its own opera company. For 56 years, Opera NOVA has remained a steady local cultural treasure.

The best way to describe the Opera NOVA of today is to tell you that it is a service organization that through the arts serves the entire community. We are today the stewards who sustain what volunteer-civic activists started back in the 1960s when they believed there to be a cultural vacuum in Arlington and filled it by establishing the Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia.   Without a doubt, their action was intended to influence the culture for good by elevating the presence of the arts as well as the level of social grace and worldliness of Arlington, which was just beginning to become a sophisticated urban-like community. This cultural civic gem, unfortunately, has become the “best-kept secret in Arlington.”

We believe that with participation of the local business community we have a viable chance to impact the basic civic cultural and social climate.  With business allies we have a chance to have a healthy arts and culture ecology.   Please give us that chance.
